Iron Kid – Angela VanOmmeran

Angela was last week’s Iron Kid of the game. She has had not one, but 2 heart transplants. The first was when she was less than 1 year old. She had a great time at the game. She quickly develped a liking for Bryan Pray and she was EXTREMELY excited to meet him after the game.

Iron Kid – Jessica Terkel

Iron Win at home!! Jessica and her family had a great time watching an exciting back and forth game. Congratulations to the team.

Jessica has had both a kidney and liver transplant in 2005. You would never know it. She is an athlete herself, competing in the Special Olympics in softball, vollyball, and track just to name a few.

I actually got to walk out on the field with Jessica per her request. We almost missed it. We thought it was going to be during the 4th quarter, but they sprung it on us at the end of the 3rd quarter. We made it in time and really enjoyed hearing the crowd cheer for a fellow athlete.

Ryan Grant of the Packers

Kelci and her family had a great time at the game. Kelci sure had the stage that night. She was out there “shaking her stuff” dancing as the crowd cheered her on. She loved all of the attention.

Ryan Grant, the running back for the Green Bay Packers stopped by to watch the Iron. He was very nice and took pictures with Kelci and signed autographs for her. The best part was when Kelci’s mom asked him to hold Kelci for the picture. Ryan looked very apprehensive about picking her up because he new she was a little fragile, so I said to him, “You are paid millions of dollars not to drop things, don’t worry about it.” He was a real class act.

On Sunday, my family joined Kelci for the Great Strides Walk to cure Cystic Fibrosis. It was a very nice day at the zoo, and a great way to raise money for a cure.

Kecli’s mom Karen sent the following e-mail about their time at the game.

“Thank you again for choosing Kelci as the IronKid of the Game Friday! She continues to talk about it!! Am sure it will be something the girls will remember for a long time – THANK YOU!!!”

Iron Kid – Kelci Wunschel

Kelci is this weeks Iron Kid of the Game. Kelci was born with Cystic Fibrosis 3&1/2 years ago. Cystic fibrosis is a devastating genetic disease that affects children and young adults. Advances continue to be made in finding a cure, but your help is needed now – more than ever – to help keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. Too many young lives depend on this vital research to let it go unfunded!

GREAT STRIDES is the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation’s largest and most successful national fund-raising event. This year, Kelci is walking in the GREAT STRIDES events at the Milwaukee County Zoo on May 17th and Twining Park in Monroe, WI May 16th, 2009. The CF Team has worked very closely with us in making the medical changes needed for Kelci to stay healthy!

Iron Kid – Austin Edmonds

Howdy all,

Skywalk Pharmacy’s 4th Iron Kid of the Game was Austin Edmonds on May 1st. Austin was born with a rare kidney disease, which lead to a kidney transplant when he was 14 months. The kidney transplant was done at Children’s Hospital, his grandfather, Elton, donated one of his kidneys and Austin’s were removed. Austin is now 5 1/2 years old. He has had 20 surgery’s and cancer treatment for Burkkits Lymphoma, a rare childhood cancer, that was found when he was 3. Austin continues to have health, sensory and ADHD issues due to some of the chemo drug side effects and passed health history. He is scheduled for his 21st surgery in April of 09 for a tooth issue. In general Austin is doing good, he continues to go to Renal, Oncology, Feeding, ENT, and Behavioral Clinics on a regular basis to monitor his progress. We continue to administer his drugs thru his “G” Tube located in his tummy.

Austin and his family had a great time. The best part of the evening (the Iron didn’t play very well again), was when Austin was getting autographs. He first asked defensive standout, Quartez Vickerson to “Sign your name here and put your “picture” here” while pointing to the football that team owner, Drew Vallozzi gave him. Well, Quartez was a little confused at first trying to figure out how to put his “picture” on the football, but he said “OK” and he drew a little self portrait. Well after that, Austin asked everyone to “sign your name here and put your picture there” and everyone starting drawing little pictures of themselves. It was great. Iron Kid recap – Corah Buth

Sorry I am so late in posting Corah’s pictures. We had a blast at the game. Too bad the Iron didn’t have quite as good a showing, but it was still a great time. Here is what Corah’s mom had to say about the game.

“Thanks to Jake, who owns and is a Pharm.D. at the Skywalk Pharmacy at Childrens Hospital, our family was able to attend the 4-17 Milwaukee Iron Arena Football game at the Bradley Center. It was lots of fun to watch! The girls had a great time. Corah was the “Iron Kid” of the night. She (and we since she didn’t want to walk out by herself) was able to go out onto the field after the 3rd quarter. They announced her name, that she was the Iron Kid of the night and had recently finished chemo, and then everyone did a ”Happy Birthday” (early by a couple weeks shout out to Corah. Thanks Jake for the Birthday surprise!! Corah and Myah were very excited and got to shake the Cheerleaders Pom-poms out on the field!”

Iron Kid of the Game – Corah Buth

We are proud to have Corah Buth as this week’s Iron Kid of the Game! Corah was first diagnosed with leukemia when she was 2 years old. She tackled that challenge and thanks to Skywalk Pharmacy, Corah will be off to enjoy a great football game tonight when the Milwaukee Iron take on the Peoria Pirates.

Corah completed her second chemotherapy protocol in December 2008. She has had a total of about 5 years of chemotherapy in the past 7 years. She embodies what it means to be an Iron Kid!

We also want to wish Corah a happy 7th birthday next week! Please help sing along at the game tonight and we hope to see you there cheering her on to the field!

Jarianna and her family had a great time at the game. She got to run out to mid-field with the Platinum Dance Team and really enjoyed watching them dance. She even lost her tooth 10 minutes before she ran out – now that is an Iron Kid!!

Iron Kid of the Game – Jarrianna Huston

This week’s Iron Kid of the Game is Jarrianna Huston. Jarrianna was born with Biliary Atresia. If you want to know more about this condition, here is the Wikipedia entry.

Because of her Biliary Atresia, Jarrianna required a liver transplant when she was only 6 months old. After the transplant, it was determined that it wasn’t working out, so she had to undergo a second transplant only 2 days later. Since then, Jarrianna has spent a lot of her life at Children’s Hospital battling everything from pneumonia to the Epstein Bar Virus. She has to take medication every day to prevent her body from rejecting her new liver, which she receives from Skywalk Pharmacy. With a lot of help and prayers, Jeri is able to go to the Milwaukee Iron game and be a normal functioning 7 year old. Thank you for your support and please keep Jarrianna and her family in mind.
